Game Rules
(10) after 5 innings
Coed
Homeruns
*Balls that are hit in fair territory and go over the fence, will not count as a homerun if aided by a defensive player.
Men are required to hit their own 12” NSA 52/275 or ICON 44/400 softball.
Women are required to hit their own 11” NSA 52/275 softball.

Forfeit Rule
A team that forfeits (2) consecutive weeks or (3) games in a season will be automatically dropped from the league
without a refund.
Protest
All protest are to be handled at the exact point of contention. The game will be played and a ruling will be made by the league manager within 1 week.
Equipment
Code of Conduct
*Any player or coach that has been ejected and refuses to leave the park can result in the game being forfeited, and a suspension may occur depending on the severity of the offense.
4. No tobacco, alcohol, or controlled substances are allowed in the park or parking lots.
5. Coaches will be held responsible for their players.
Cancellations
In case of inclement weather, all decisions will be made by 4pm. Game cancellations will be posted on the city’s website; www.kirksville.com, sent via Textcaster (sign up for this text messaging service on the City’s website) or posted on the Cancellation Hotline – (660) 627-1485 option 2. If no announcement has been made, team managers should encourage team members to arrive at their field by game time even if it is raining. If field conditions are not playable, the game will be called at the field by the umpire supervisor on duty.
- All participants must be at least 16 years of age.
- Teams may pick up a player or players to avoid a forfeit. Prior to the start of the game, the umpire and the opposing team’s manager should be notified and agree to play.
- All players must sign a liability waiver (including new players) prior to taking the field.
- Female players are only allowed to play in the Coed Division.
- Roster fraud may result in forfeit and/or suspension
Game Rules
- Games will be played in accordance with the NSA standards and rules. Kirksville Parks and Recreation reserves the right to add or modify the NSA by-laws to facilitate the smooth running of the league.
- Each team must have a minimum of 8 players to start and continue the game. An out will be assessed for the 9th and 10th batters. If the 9th and 10th players arrive, they may be inserted in the game at any time.
- In all leagues, each batter will begin with a 1-1 count with no courtesy foul.
- Each game will consist of (7) innings or an hour time limit, whichever comes first. If time expires while an inning is in progress, the game will be concluded at the end of that complete inning.
- Game time is forfeit time.
- All equipment must be kept inside the dugout and out of the playing field at all times.
- One courtesy runner can be used per inning. It can be anyone that is in the game. If that runner’s spot comes up in the batting order and he/she is occupying a base, that player's spot in the batting order will be declared as an out.
- Run Rules: (15) after 3 innings
(10) after 5 innings
Coed
- In Coed, each team should have 5 men and 5 women on the field at all times. If the minimum of 8 players are in the game, 4 must be men and 4 must be women. An out will be assessed for the 9th and 10th batters. If the 9th and 10th players arrive, they may be inserted in the game at any time. Men and women must alternate in the batting order. If a male batter is walked, he will be awarded (2) bases. With (2) outs and a walk to a male batter, the female batter has the option to walk or bat until the first pitch.
- One courtesy runner per gender can be used per inning.
Homeruns
- Upper – 4 & 1 up
- Lower – 2 homeruns, then any additional ball(s) hit in fair territory and that goes over the fence untouched by a defensive player will be declared an out.
- Combined – 3 & 1 up

- No metal spikes will be allowed.
- Balls - All teams are required to provide and hit their own optic yellow NSA ball.
Men - 12” NSA 52/275 or ICON 44/400
Women - 11” NSA 52/275 - Bats – The official bat shall bear the 2012 NSA logo and be manufactured by a bat company that is listed on the Official Licensed Bat Company list at www.playnsa.com. The official bat cannot be a bat listed on the Non-Approved Bat list or be a bat from a company that is not listed as an Approved Bat Company.
Code of Conduct
- Any player or coach who verbally or physically threatens, uses obscene language, repeatedly argues and complains with the umpire, etc., will be ejected from the game and is subject to a suspension from the softball program for that session or longer.
- Any coach or player that is ejected, must leave the complex and will be ineligible to participate in the following week’s game(s). For a second offense, the coach or player will be suspended for the remainder of the session.
- Fighting is DEFINITELY forbidden. Any coach or player involved in fighting will immediately be ejected from the game, will be asked to leave the complex, and will be suspended until further notice.
